This was it, the big one.....
We
all had allocated times based on surname, which put
me at the back end of the afternoon. However, at
lunchtime, suddenly there were no queues and the
staff offered ‘open season’ for any competitors who
were ready. I was ready. Dressed in race gear,
suitcase ready to check-in, braced for the
arguments that would ensue over my ECG.
As we entered the registration tent, you hand over
your suitcase, keeping only what you require for
the week ahead, although we would not be
‘self-sufficient’ until tomorrow morning. Next up
race numbers and lanyard with a medical and water
card on it, not to be lost! Then, flares and salt
tablets, the perfect production line. Different
forms to different desks. Finally, the medical sign
off. I handed over my fax copy, including cover
sheet. Nothing, not a complaint, a few questions on
training and bang, I’m in!! Much ado about
nothing………
